The same Peugeot 508L and 5008 sold in China and Russia carry radically different price tags. Here's what the Chengdu Motor Show stand reveals about both markets.

While everyone at Peugeot's stand in Chengdu is busy gawking at the futuristic Concept 8, something far more interesting is happening just a few steps away. The Chengdu Motor Show 2026 put the production 508L and 5008 on display—the exact same models officially sold in Russia. And it's the price tags that deliver the real shock.

The Chinese-market Peugeot 508L starts at 163,700 yuan and tops out at 194,700 yuan—roughly $23,000 to $27,300. The 5008 ranges from 178,700 to 189,700 yuan, or about $25,100 to $26,600. These figures match the official pricing announced by Dongfeng Peugeot for the current 508L and 5008. Both models get a 1.8-liter turbo engine rated at 211 horsepower paired with an 8-speed Aisin automatic, and the 5008 seats seven.

In Russia, the numbers tell an entirely different story. The official price for the 2026-model Peugeot 508L is 4,699,000 rubles for the Prestige trim, with the same claimed 211 horsepower and 8-speed automatic. The 2024-model Peugeot 5008 is capped at a maximum resale price of 4,799,000 rubles; its engine also delivers 211 horsepower and 300 Nm of torque.

That works out to nearly double. The top Chinese price for the 508L is roughly 1.96 times lower than the Russian sticker, and the range-topping 5008 in China costs a little more than half as much. But this isn't a simple markup: the cars differ in trim and model year, and the Russian price bakes in importing, logistics, mandatory fees, certification, and commercial overhead. You'll occasionally spot a Russian 5008 listed at 4.399 million rubles, but that's a trade-in program price—the base sticker is 4.799 million.

Here's the interesting part: the Russian-market 508L and 5008 keep hardware very close to their Chinese counterparts. So the Chengdu stand isn't really showing a difference between the cars themselves—it's showing the price of the exact same automotive concept across two markets. And that price gap is about double. No typo.
