Tesla has officially launched an artificial intelligence training center in China. Vice President Grace Tao announced the start of local AI infrastructure deployment on February 6.

Tao explained that the new center focuses on training and adapting Tesla's algorithms for assisted driving and other AI applications tailored specifically to the Chinese market. This involves localizing data processing and training procedures, which is a crucial requirement for operating such technologies in China. While the center's computational capabilities remain undisclosed, Tesla states that current resources are adequate for existing tasks.

Earlier that same day, Tao noted that Tesla will actively develop driver-assistance systems in China, though specific implementation timelines are not yet set. These remarks came amid discussions about the potential approval of Full Self-Driving technology in the country. In January, CEO Elon Musk suggested at the World Economic Forum in Davos that FSD could gain approval in China as early as February.

However, China Daily later reported, citing a government source, that this information was inaccurate. Against this backdrop, the launch of the AI center appears as an infrastructure move designed to accelerate the adaptation of Tesla's technologies to Chinese requirements and regulatory conditions before the company can expect full approval for its assisted driving systems.
