GM service program for Chevy Silverado 1500 grounding wire
GM launches a free service program for 2019-2024 Chevy Silverado 1500 pickups to replace a corroded grounding wire, covering repairs until 2028 with no mileage restrictions.
General Motors has launched a new service program affecting certain Chevrolet Silverado 1500 pickups from the 2019 through 2024 model years. Designated internally as N252515590, this campaign addresses a potential issue with the grounding wire that connects the vehicle's body to its frame.
According to the manufacturer, corrosion may develop on the grounding wire in some vehicles, which could impact the performance of electrical systems. To prevent further complications, dealers are instructed to verify vehicle eligibility through the GM Global Warranty Management system.
Under the program, dealers will replace any damaged wire with a new battery cable kit, part number GM 85773931. All work and parts are provided to customers at no cost. There are no restrictions based on mileage or vehicle age, but repairs must be completed before the program ends on February 29, 2028.
GM emphasizes that vehicles covered by this program must undergo repair before they are sold, transferred to a new owner, or used for demonstration purposes. Owners who previously paid to fix this issue can apply for reimbursement until February 28, 2027. Silverado owners will receive notifications by mail, and the manufacturer recommends contacting dealers in advance, as parts availability may be limited.
Against this backdrop, the company is also preparing for the launch of the next-generation Silverado 1500, expected in 2027. Such programs highlight GM's proactive approach to addressing potential problems before they escalate into widespread failures. Offering free repairs without mileage restrictions is a sensible move, especially since it involves a critical component of the pickup's electrical architecture.
