Audi discontinues S6 gasoline model in U.S., electric version coming in 2027
Audi confirms the gasoline-powered S6 will not be available in the U.S. in 2026, with sales declining and focus shifting to electric vehicles like the upcoming S6 e-tron.
Audi has officially confirmed that the new-generation gasoline-powered S6 will not be available in the U.S. market in 2026. This means the familiar 2.9-liter V6 version with 444 horsepower from the previous generation is effectively discontinued in its traditional form.
A brand representative indicated that a future return of the model isn't ruled out, but plans beyond 2026 remain undisclosed. The decision stems from streamlining the model lineup and shifting focus toward electric vehicles.
The new Audi A6 comes with a 3.0-liter V6 producing 362 horsepower. It accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds, compared to 4.4 seconds for the previous S6—a negligible difference in performance.
Sales of the entire A6 lineup, including the S6 and RS6 Avant, in the U.S. last year totaled 6,897 cars, a 19% drop from the year before. Meanwhile, the electric A6 sold 3,931 units and by the end of the third quarter had become Audi's best-selling model worldwide.
As an alternative, Audi offers the Sport Plus package for $5,850, which includes 21-inch wheels, a sport suspension, rear-wheel steering, and an active rear differential.
The electric S6 Sportback e-tron is confirmed for 2027. With 543 horsepower, it accelerates to 60 mph in 3.7 seconds, representing the sports car segment in an all-electric format.
