Alfa Romeo has taken another swing at the Tonale — and this time there are no half-measures. The updated Tonale Series 3 has just landed in Australia, and the first thing you notice is the new front end. A concave 3D Scudetto grille, a reworked Trilobe, redesigned air intakes and a wider track front and rear. The Italians seem to have rediscovered the model's character.
And it gets better. There are new 19-inch Stile wheels and a fresh body palette: Brera Red, Monza Green and Giallo Ocra, exclusive to the Sport Speciale. All of them come with a black roof — a contrast that adds a little drama. Inside, the centre console has been reworked, a rotary gear selector added and new materials introduced. And for those who like it hotter, there's red leather trim.
In Australia the Tonale Series 3 comes in Veloce trim with two electrified powertrains. The Ibrida version gets a 1.5-litre turbo engine with a 48-volt mild-hybrid system and a combined 172 hp. The Ibrida Plug-In Q4 goes all in: 266 hp, all-wheel drive and up to 59 km of electric range on the WLTP cycle.
Now for the money. Prices start at 64,990 Australian dollars ($44,980) for the Tonale Veloce Ibrida and at 78,990 Australian dollars ($54,669) for the Plug-In Q4. The limited Junior Sport Speciale and Tonale Sport Speciale ask 51,990 and 68,990 Australian dollars ($35,982 and $47,748). The takeaway is simple: among its 2026 cars, Alfa Romeo is betting on design, hybrids and far richer equipment. And it looks like it knows exactly what it's doing.
