Forget the umbrella in the door — it's still there, but it's not the headline anymore. Škoda has just rolled out its biggest Simply Clever update in years, and this time it's not about boot nets or bottle holders. It's about turning an electric car into something that used to require a generator and a tent with built-in climate control. Škoda's EVs now get Vehicle-to-Load (V2L), while the MySkoda app adds a Camp Mode built for spending the night in the car.
V2L turns the traction battery into a portable power bank on wheels. Devices can be plugged in either through a 230V socket in the boot or via a genuine Škoda adapter connected to the charging port. Škoda names the use cases directly: laptops, cameras, power banks, travel kettles, even e-bikes. One catch — V2L is only available on Škoda EVs built from June 2026 onward. Older cars keep the socket, but not the power behind it.
Camp Mode works differently — it's not about charging gadgets, it's about keeping people comfortable. Through the MySkoda app, drivers can leave the climate system running overnight, so the cabin stays warm (or cool) without anyone needing to start the car manually. But there's a catch here too: it needs at least 30% battery charge, a healthy 12V starter battery, and a stable internet connection to switch on at all. Škoda says the feature covers the electric Epiq, Elroq, Enyaq and Peaq, provided Škoda Connect services are active.
The new flagship Peaq takes the practicality furthest — enough that it starts to feel less like a crossover and more like a spa on wheels. The optional Relax Package brings power-adjustable, heated, massaging seats, adjustable leg rests, a Sonos sound system and a Wellbeing app with six modes, ranging from relaxation to a proper energy boost. In the seven-seat version, the boot cover can be tucked away under the bonnet, which also has room for the charging cables.
The more familiar Simply Clever tricks haven't gone anywhere: depending on the model, you'll still find a door umbrella, bottle holders up to 1.5 litres, boot nets and hooks, USB-C ports up to 45W, and the ventilated Phone Box for wireless charging. What you actually get depends on the model, trim and market.
Škoda previously confirmed that the Epiq Essence 35 will start at €25,900, undercutting the current €32,100 price.
