Ford’s Start Inhibit anti-theft brings remote engine block to F-150 and Super Duty
Start Inhibit anti-theft arrives on Ford F-150 and Super Duty: block engine starts via FordPass, get alerts, speed police recovery. $7.99/month after 1 year.
Ford has expanded its Start Inhibit anti-theft system to the F-150 and the Super Duty pickups. The technology lets owners remotely block the engine from starting—even if a thief has stolen or cloned the key—via the FordPass mobile app.
Start Inhibit arrived on the F-150 in 2024, and from 2025 it’s also available on the F-250. The service is included for one year after purchase, then costs $7.99 per month. Owners receive alerts about unauthorized access, door openings, and suspicious vehicle movement, which makes it easier to check on the truck early if a theft attempt is underway. In daily use, that kind of quick feedback adds a welcome layer of deterrence and peace of mind.
A defining element of Start Inhibit is its coordination with law enforcement. After a theft is confirmed, Ford contacts the police, helps pinpoint the vehicle’s location, remotely disables the engine, and records the stop point. According to Detroit police, in most cases these vehicles are recovered within an hour. Ford notes that the service works only with the user’s consent to share data, including geolocation and vehicle status—a trade-off that feels pragmatic when speed of recovery matters.
