De Tomaso unveils new V12 engine for P900 hypercar
De Tomaso reveals details of its new V12 engine for the P900 hypercar, including 900 horsepower, synthetic fuel capability, and a lightweight design.
Italian automaker De Tomaso has unveiled the first details of its new V12 engine and exhaust system for the upcoming P900 hypercar. The company notes that 12-cylinder engines are becoming increasingly rare, yet the brand continues to develop this classic architecture.
According to De Tomaso, the powertrain took four years to develop. Key design features include interwoven steel pipes, a complex carbon fiber intake system, and extensive thermal protection materials. With a claimed weight of 220 kg, the manufacturer suggests this could be the lightest V12 ever built.

The new 6.2-liter engine is designed to run on synthetic fuel, producing 900 horsepower and capable of revving up to 12,300 rpm. This exceeds the rev limit of the V12 Cosworth engine in the Gordon Murray T.50.
Preliminary data indicates the production P900 will weigh 900 kg, achieving a 1:1 power-to-weight ratio. All power will be sent to the rear wheels via an Xtrac sequential gearbox. The hypercar is expected to start at $3 million.
