The Mercedes-Maybach S 680 with a V12 engine will no longer be available to European buyers. This marks the end of an era that has symbolized the pinnacle of luxury and technical excellence for decades.

In Europe, only the armored Mercedes-Benz S 680 Guard will remain, equipped with the familiar 6-liter V12 engine and aimed exclusively at a narrow circle of specialized clients.

Outside Europe, however, Mercedes-Benz continues to offer V12 engines. The 6-liter M279 V12 power unit, delivering 612 horsepower, will still be produced for select markets including Japan, China, Korea, the United States, and the Middle East, where demand for large luxury powertrains persists.

The main reason for discontinuing V12 cars in Europe is the upcoming Euro 7 emissions standards. The technical and financial costs of adapting the V12 to increasingly stringent requirements, coupled with relatively low sales volumes in Europe, are clearly no longer economically justified.

Overall, the departure of the V12 from the European Maybach S-Class lineup represents not just a model change, but another step in the structural evolution of the ultra-premium automotive segment.
