Renault is pulling off a major production reshuffle — and Spain sits right at the centre of it. The plant in Palencia could become Europe's main forge for electric crossovers. Three of them, no less. That's according to La Tribuna de Automoción, citing sources familiar with the group's manufacturing plans.
First up in Palencia is the new Renault Rafale, with assembly kicking off in June 2028. Next, in April 2029, comes the turn of the new Renault Scenic. And in July 2029 a third joins the pair — the next-generation electric Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross.
Today's Eclipse Cross rolls off the line right alongside the Scenic at Renault's plant in Douai, France, and has done since late 2025. But the French now plan to shift part of the future programme across the Pyrenees. It will be part of Renault's fifth industrial plan for the country.
And here's where it gets interesting. All three models are set to ride on the new RGEV medium 2.0 platform. That means an 800-volt architecture, compatibility with different battery types and up to 750 km of WLTP range for the pure-electric versions. What's more, the platform is built to handle range-extender variants too. For a city runabout that arsenal is overkill. For a mid-size SUV, it turns into a trump card.
