A hidden cubby behind the screen isn't what you'd expect from a pickup truck. But that's exactly what GMC came up with for the new-generation Sierra 1500. The central display now gets a motorized mechanism and slides upward, revealing a niche underneath — room enough for sunglasses and the small items that usually get lost somewhere in the cabin.
Officially, it's not a sunglasses box — GMC never called it that. The current Sierra doesn't have a dedicated closed compartment for glasses either, and the available niches depend on trim level. Still, it looks exactly like something designed with sunglasses in mind.
And that's just one detail in a much bigger interior overhaul. The central screen has grown to 16.3 inches. In front of the driver sits a 12.2-inch display. The front passenger now gets their own 11.5-inch monitor. Top trims add a panoramic roof, a new center console, and two wireless charging pads.
But the real surprise is under the hood. GMC unveiled a lineup of sixth-generation naturally aspirated V8 engines, offered in 5.7-liter and 6.6-liter displacements. The company isn't shy about calling the larger unit the most powerful naturally aspirated V8 in its class. Exact horsepower and torque figures remain under wraps for now. The TurboMax turbo engine and the 3.0-liter Duramax diesel aren't going anywhere — the lineup keeps its full breadth.
Sales of the Sierra 2027 in the U.S. begin later in 2026. GMC will announce pricing and the full equipment list closer to launch.
