Iveco may enter Australia's pickup truck segment
Iveco is considering entering Australia's double-cab pickup market, currently dominated by Ford Ranger and Toyota HiLux, to expand its customer base.
Italian company Iveco, best known for its light and medium-duty trucks, has confirmed it is exploring entering Australia's double-cab pickup segment. This market is currently dominated by the Ford Ranger and Toyota HiLux.
Following the presentation of the updated Daily truck and van lineup, Iveco's national manager in Australia, James Johnson, stated the brand would seize the opportunity to expand its customer base.
Johnson noted that light-duty trucks or vans are more practical for cargo transport but fall short of pickups in performance and maneuverability due to their larger size.
Moreover, light trucks and vans cannot match the striking appearance of models like the Ford Ranger Wildtrak, Isuzu D-Max X-Terrain, and Toyota HiLux SR5. They also lack the advanced powertrains found in plug-in hybrids such as the BYD Shark 6 and GWM Cannon Alpha.
Currently, Iveco offers only one vehicle in Australia that can be driven with a standard car license: the Daily model. However, this vehicle comes in several configurations, including the 42C (the smallest van in the range) or the 50C, with various lengths, single or double cabs, and options for a reinforced frame.
